Xinu, The SEO Pit Stop

Posted by admin on September 3rd, 2007 filed in General

Recenlty I came across this simple piece of software called Xinu, developed by “Miquel Camps Orteza” and released under Creative Commons license .
Xinu is gives a complete snap shot of your website related to your SEO rankings in one screen in neatly organized draggable boxes.
We are in so much hurry buying links, writing articles and we forget to check how our site is standing across various factors on the Internet.
Xinu is like one minute pit stop to check your standings and rankings and run again.

Some of the features of Xinu are :
 1. Screenshot of your website
 2. a. Diagnosis of the domain name and the URL , like how many headings are used, whether there is a title and description and whether it is too short of too long.
     b. Whether there is favicon or not.
 3. Domain Information.
The IP of the hosting server , the location and the age of the domain.
 4. Ranking. Google Page rank, Technorati ranking, Alexa ranking, and whether listed in DMOZ or not.
 5. Syndication :
Shows if any syndications are available or not.
 6. Social Bookmarks
No of bookmarks available in delicious , digg , Mister Wong and many more.
 7. Validations
Whether HTML is valid or not
     CSS is valid or not.
     RSS is valid or not
 8. Indexed Pages
Number of pages indexed by google, google images, Yahoo and Live.
 9. BackLinks
Number of backlinks detected in wide variety of search engines like Webcrawler, Clusty, Lycos, Altavista. All the web , Ask ,
apart from the big three and Alexa.

All these things are reported in under one minute in a single screen.
At the end of the report generation, you can also download the report in PDF format.

Results are pretty accurate as it runs queries from curl, instead of using an search engine API.
API is good, but again each data center may report different numbers. Using general browser like queries, it shows the current status of your site.

 Know bugs :
 1. Yahoo backlins is reported as Indexed Page count and vice versa.
 2. Social book mark counts are not so much reliable.
 3. It does not detect RSS properly.
 4. There are no upgrades going on. so, it may get outdated soon, considering the dynamic nature of the web and SEO.
 5. In IE6 and below ( I haven’t check in IE7), the right hand side boxes fall down  as the screen shot goes beyond the box size.
 6. Available only in English and Spanish.

You can test run at Indiatags.com/xinu.
